Flavor Fixation!: A seasonal obsession that comes around every Christmas season with these thin crisp wafer cookies sandwiching a sweet creamy hazelnut paste and covered in a thick hard layer of dark chocolate. Even this non-nutella fan flips for this chocolate and praline paste dessert from Florence or Siena.
Produced by the same company which has been around since 1827 and makes the Fiore Panforte and Ricciarelli that swamp the Tuscan shelves this time of year, this new contender is nevertheless popular, though not as widely recognized, and certainly without the government protected status shared by the other two.
While this recipe doesn’t date back to the middle ages – its classic combination of dark chocolate and hazelnut praline make it a contemporary classic. If only it were available all year round!
